YWCA Strong & Steady For Life Fitness Program

The classes within the YWCA Strong and Steady for Life Program were designed for seniors who are looking for fun and friendly ways to support their fitness needs. Fall-prevention, balance, muscle-strengthening and overall flexibility are the core goals for this senior wellness program. Our experienced and certified instructors are committed to helping our members become strong and steady for life ultimately, living a healthy well-balanced life. Open to all ages!

We offer several styles and levels of group classes to help you stay motivated as well as make new friends. Please check the senior social events board each month to find details on our fun and educational events that are sure to enhance and support your overall well-being. The YWCA is very proud of our senior fitness program! Land classes, water classes, and social events make getting fit FUN! SilverSneakers® and Silver&Fit®

The YWCA is proud to partner with both Healthways SilverSneakers® Fitness Program and American Specialty Health Incorporated’s Silver&Fit® Fitness Program. We also partner with Renew Active® by United Healthcare. These programs provide eligible members with no-cost or low-cost fitness memberships here at the YWCA through arrangements with certain health plans. Please check with your health plan provider to see if you are eligible for either SilverSneakers, Silver&Fit, or Renew Active Fitness Programs. If you are, simply bring your membership information in, and we’ll discuss YWCA membership with you!

While many of our fitness classes are enjoyed by seniors, YWCA “Strong & Steady for Life” fitness classes are specifically designed to accommodate balance and stability issues experienced by some seniors. Land Classes

Easy Does It!

T/TH 12:15-1:00 pm MPR (Jeanne)

A fun mix of easy balance, strength and mobility exercises all done in a chair with rhythmic music. Fall prevention and balance exercises designed specifically for seniors. Perfect for older seniors new to exercise or the less-mobile who want to add flexibility, balance, cardio, strength and fun to their life!

No Fall Balance Training

T 9:00-9:45 am MPR (Connie)

Specifically designed to improve your balance, this class will use a variety of equipment including light weights, chairs, stability balls and BOSU balls. A fun approach to better balance!

Circuit Training

T/TH 8:00-8:45 am FC (Connie)

If you want a stronger bone structure, healthier back, renewed muscle growth, and a more active lifestyle, this program is for you!

Chair Yoga

M/W 12:15-1:00 pm MPR (Jeanne)

Move your whole body through a complete series of seated and standing yoga poses. Chair support is offered to safely perform a variety of postures designed to increase flexibility, balance and range of movement. Restorative breathing exercises and final relaxation will promote stress reduction and mental clarity.

SilverSneakers® Classic

T/Th 11:00-11:45 am MPR (Jeanne)

Move to the music through a variety of exercises designed to increase muscular strength, range of movement, and activity for daily living skills. Weights, elastic tubing with handles, and a ball are offered for resistance, and a chair is used.

Cardio Circuit

M/W/F 11:10-12:00 pm MPR (Jeanne)

Experience standing, low-impact choreography alternated with standing upper-body strength work.

Tai Chi Walk

M/W 1:05-1:35 pm MPR (Jeanne)
 
SilverSneakers EnerChi combines easy to learn tai chi forms and qigong exercises to improve well-being through mindful movement. While learning and practicing forms, attention is given to transferring weight smoothly, maintaining postural control and focused breathing techniques. Benefits include increased muscular endurance, improved balance recovery and a calm mind. Chair support is offered to facilitate standing stability and seated exercise options.

Stretch Fitness

M/TH 10:00-10:45 am MPR (Connie)

Stretch your way to a more flexible body, better range of motion and create a balance of strength & flexibility. A “feel good” class!

SilverSneakers® Stability

M/W 1:05-1:35 pm MPR

SS Stability primarily focuses on improving balance and lower body strength. The class is designed to decrease risk of falls and strengthen the ankle, knee and hip joints. A chair is used for support.

50+ Club Events & Trips

At the YWCA, we like to mix fitness with fun. Many great social events are planned throughout the year.
